Milton Mushrooms supply their white and phoenix oyster mushrooms to many great local restaurants, and also sell their own cultures and grow-kits to help educate people on the fascinating world of fungi. Grower Marita Smith says “mushrooms are a healthy and delicious product that grow out of agricultural by-products, something we love to promote to the local community.”
Marita also embraces the opportunity to sell her mushrooms at the local farmer’s markets, which she believes is an important link in the fabric of the South Coast food culture. “It’s great to see the amount of people going back to the land and producing things down here. South Coast farmer’s markets give young people the opportunity to make a livelihood from growing, which is fantastic, considering the average age of a farmer in Australia is 67.”
Milton Mushrooms produce exotic and gourmet food founded on a strong sense of sustainability, education and community – contributing strongly to the healthy local food culture of the area.
